Caribbean Stud Rules
To take part in a Caribbean Stud poker game online you have to buy in to the action. This means you have to ante up or place the initial buy-in bet to get the game going. This is one of the few Caribbean Stud rules that apply to most poker variants online. Once you’ve placed the buy-in bet by selecting an appropriate casino chip value and clicking on the ‘bet’ area on the layout, you have to activate the ‘deal’ button. You’ll be dealt five cards face up and the dealer will be dealt four face down cards and one up card. In land based casinos the Caribbean Stud poker rules do vary slightly. The player’s cards are obviously dealt face down as the entire point of the game is to beat the dealer’s hand.
Caribbean Stud Rules for Calling the Cards
Once you’ve examined your cards and the dealer’s up card you have to make one of two decisions. If you feel your hand doesn’t have the strength to beat the dealer’s according to conventional poker hand rankings, you can opt to fold. When you fold you effectively throw in your hand, the round ends and you lose your buy-in bet. If you’re holding high cards or better you may choose to raise. At this point you have to place a second bet valued at double that of your initial wager.
Caribbean Stud Rules Governing Dealer’s Qualifying Hand
Among the Caribbean Stud rules unique to the variant is the rule governing the dealer’s hand that kicks in as soon as you’ve placed your raise bet and all the dealer’s cards are revealed. If the dealer is holding Ace King or better the hand qualifies for the rest of the round. If not, the dealer’s hand is automatically disqualified, the round ends and you are paid 1:1 on the buy-in bet and the raise bet is returned to you. If the dealer’s hand does qualify the casino software compares the cards and there are only two possible results:
The dealer’s hand outranks your hand and you lose both wagers.
Your hand outranks the dealer’s and you are paid out even money on your buy-in bet and accrue winnings on your raise bet according to the Caribbean Stud odds.
You can improve you chances of beating the dealer by making informed decisions as to when to fold and when to raise. Read our Caribbean Stud basics and strategy tips at eCasinosonline.com for a step-by-step guide on how to optimise your play!
Caribbean Stud Odds
When your hand wins you’re paid out fixed Caribbean Stud odds. All casino games offer pay outs determined by the probability of achieving a particular card combination. The higher the payout the lower the probability of hitting a winning hand in only one deal. A royal flush pays out a jaw dropping 100:1 but the probability of hitting the highest ranking possible in only five cards is 1 in 650 000 hands! Caribbean Stud odds are:
- Pair 1:1
- Two pair 2:1
- Three of a kind 3:1
- Straight 4:1
- Flush 5:1
- Full house 7:1
- Four of a kind 20:1
- Straight flush 50:1
- Royal flush 100:1
Progressive Jackpot Caribbean Stud Poker Rules

- $50.00 – flush
- $100.00 – full house
- $500.00 – four of a kind
